Concerned citizens along with our officials in Pasco County continue to
debate over how to
manage the rapidly
increasing amounts of solid
waste. We are trying to find the
best method that provides the greatest
protection of our
environment while also
minimizing the
tax burden on our citizens. In general, the debate has focused on managing the increased demand…
In 2004, Pasco County generated over
500,000 tons of
municipal solid waste (MSW) - a fancy way of saying “garbage”, and trends show that this number will
increase over time. In the United States, MSW is
managed in a combination of ways – mostly through
landfilling,
recycling and
incineration. Our proposed Composting and Recycling Facility will
utilize a combination of enhanced
recycling and
composting of the organic portion of the garbage (the organic portion includes things like paper products and food scraps) as a method of
managing our garbage for decades to come.
Here is a short animation that demonstrates the process-the smart solution.
