Overall, the decision to construct and operate the organic composting facility provides the best environmental protection and monetary benefit for the citizens of the county. The facility will only accept non-hazardous municipal solid waste. Highlights of the facility include:
- Advanced waste treatment technology
- A bottom liner containment system that exceeds state standards to protect our groundwater supplies
- The collection of methane gas in bioreactors which will be utilized to create “green” energy
- An estimated savings of as much as $515 million over the next 22 years for
the citizens of Pasco County
