Proposed Solutions

Committed To Protecting Human Health & The Environment

Did you know that the proposed Composting and Recycling Facility will accept only non-hazardous municipal solid waste. The state-of-the-art technology to be utilized includes anaerobically (without air) decomposing the waste by introducing liquids into it. This technology is not exactly new; in fact, the technology has been permitted and utilized at facilities in Florida and elsewhere. Learn more about bioreactor facilities at bioreactor.org and about one such facility in Davis, California.

With the development of an aggressive recycling program in Pasco County, a large fraction of the material that is ultimately disposed in the proposed facility will be readily biodegradable. Under the composting conditions that will be encouraged through the addition of liquids, these wastes will biodegrade or decompose much faster (traditionally these wastes can take decades to decompose). Sound confusing? Here is a short animation that demonstrates the process.
