
In 2004, Pasco County generated over 500,000 tons of MSW, and trends show that this number will continue to grow. In the United States, MSW is managed in a combination of ways – mostly through landfilling, recycling and incineration. Our proposed composting facility will utilize a combination of enhanced recycling and composting of the organic portion of the garbage (the organic portion includes things like paper products and food scraps) as a method of managing our garbage for decades to come.
Currently, curbside recycling and wide-scale availability of recycling services in Pasco County are very low. We want to change that. We are proposing an on-site recycling center where the citizens of Pasco County can bring their recyclable materials, free of charge – aluminum cans, steel cans, plastics, glass, paper, cardboard and more.
